About Sangeetaalaya
Founded in 2012, Sangeetalaya School of Music is a Carnatic music school in Tampa offering vocal and violin lessons under the guidance of Smt.Alamelu Prasanna. Our mission is to be a “stepping stone to your musical journey,” by providing an engaging and personalized learning experience to each student as they strive to reach their musical goals.
We are committed to preserving and promoting Carnatic music through a curriculum that covers the fundamentals of vocal and violin techniques, ragas, talas, musical theory, and lyrical interpretation. Our classes cater to students of all ages, from four to 65, and all skill levels, from beginners to advanced learners.
Students of Sangeetalaya regularly perform at local events such as the Thyagaraja Aradhana hosted by the Hindu Temple of Florida, mandala season concerts hosted by the Sri Ayyappa Temple of Tampa, monthly youth concerts hosted by Nandalala youth music, Anammacharya day hosted by TAF and Shri Sai baba temple, and celebrations hosted by regional Indian associations. Students have also competed and won awards in musical competitions hosted by MAT, MACF, FIA, Tamil Sneham, and more. Additionally, students have performed at dance programs hosted by Rudram Dance Company and Shrishti Dance School of Tampa, gaining valuable performance experience and exposure to the wider Carnatic music community.
About Guru – Smt.Alamelu Prasanna
Alamelu Prasanna is a passionate follower of music and has been organizing and participating in musical events in the Tampa Bay area over the past two decades. She has been learning Carnatic Music, both Vocal and Violin, from a very young age and has also been teaching both arts in the Tampa Bay area for over 15 years now.
Alamelu has passed the Technical Examinations conducted by the Directorate of Government Examinations, Government of Tamil Nadu, on both Violin and Vocal Music. Additionally, she has performed in various temples in New Delhi and Doordarshan (New Delhi), played in violin duos in Tampa alongside her guru, performed as a violin accompanist in dance arangetrams and programs, and has also been performing locally to wide audiences.
Alamelu is an MBA Graduate from the University of South Florida, an IT professional by day and music teacher by night. She is married to Prasanna Meenakshi and they have two children, Janani & Ashwini, both of whom are also Carnatic singers and Bharathanatyam dancers who also teach for Sangeetalaya.
